The Lost Symbol (Released: 15th Sept 2009)
Dan Brown's new novel, "The Lost Symbol" has not only broken the record for the most adult hardback
sales in the UK
ever, but it has done it in it's first 36 hours on general sale!! The novel
has sold 300,000+ copies in that time surpassing the 280,000 sales of the previous record holder,
"Hannibal" (Thomas Harris) - released in 1999. The Lost Symbol has sold more than 1,000,000 copies
worldwide during the same 36 hour period. Not bad I guess!
A Synopsis Of The Book
So...after a long and patient build-up, we finally know now that
the latest Robert Langdon mystery is based around freemasonry. Bearing many resemblances
to the previous Dan Brown novels DaVinci Code & Angels & Demons, The Lost Symbol sees Langdon
receive a fake invitation to deliver a speech only to discover a severed hand which he
recognises as resembling the "...Hand of the Mysteries". From here, a hunt in and beneath the
city of Washington DC ensues with trademark gruesome discoveries and interfering characters.
Early reviews seem to suggest pretty much what we expect...you're not buying The Lost Symbol
for it's clever prose and Booker prize-winning potential, but for thrills, excitememt and a
fine yarn. Good enough for me then :)
Pricing
As you'd expect, some of the big retailers are already stocking TLS and it's already
Amazon's fastest selling
pre-order of all time - kind of backs up the "
5 million isn't going to be enough" theory. The price seems to be
pretty standard across the board too -
£9.49
for the hardback. Incidentally, I have
read all 4 of Dan Brown's books and loved every one of them. I have written up a review of
Angels and Demons (compating the book and the film) and provided a little more information
on
Dan Brown himself - if you are ordering
The Lost Symbol, and haven't read the others, I'd really urge you to
get them too while they are cheap. Fantastic yarns IMO.
